Spokane airport gets overpass grant
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Spokane International Airport will get a boost of almost $23 million, according to an announcement from Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-WA.
The $22,800,000 grant will be used to construct an overpass interchange over Airport Drive and relocate Spotted Road outside the Runway Protection Zone at the airport, the announcement said.
“This grant was years in the making and will have a tremendous impact on Eastern Washington communities,” Rodgers wrote in the announcement. “This funding will help Spokane International Airport improve safety for travelers and employees – on the road and in the air – while also driving the kind of economic opportunities that make our city a place people want to visit. I applaud the airport, city leaders, and everyone involved for their persistence and hard work in securing this grant funding.”
This funding is made possible by the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant program, the announcement said.
RAISE grants were originally created under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grants to help support projects with exceptional benefits, explore ways to deliver projects faster and save on construction costs, and make needed investments in the country’s infrastructure, according to the announcement.
