40 Under 40: Kevin Moran

Kevin Moran is a Community Development Officer at STCU in the Tri-Cities area, where he’s worked for nearly six years now. He also serves on the board of directors for the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, based in Pasco.

Moran said he is a first-generation student. His parents didn’t go to college and he really wanted to make sure others had the same opportunities his parents worked hard to provide for him, despite not having a college background themselves.. 

“I kind of had to learn how to do the four-year college on my own,” he said. “My family, we didn’t come from much. We came from very humble beginnings and it taught me a lot of my work ethic, my virtues and models, and I just know that there’s plenty of kiddos and students here in our community that can benefit from a scholarship.”

Moran supports Hispanic students’ success by volunteering with the Hispanic Academic Achievers program, where he has volunteered since 2016. As part of his volunteer activities, he leads the scholarship selection process for the academic funding provided by the program.

“I can tell you that we awarded 40 scholarships with a total value of over $285,000, so this is the highest amount we’ve ever been able to give out to students,” Moran said.

His career in banking began with more than three years at Clackamas Federal Credit Union, now Embold Credit Union. Before that, he worked as a student ambassador for Central Washington University to help new students get oriented and to help interested students understand more about CWU programs. He has his bachelors in marketing from CWU.

In his role as a board member for the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Moran helps develop policies and procedures and works to ensure the chamber’s budget is on track. He takes his responsibility to represent chamber members’ best interests when working with the board and in the community seriously. 

Moran has volunteered with the Academy of Soccer Excellence as an assistant coach in the past to help children develop the skills they need to enjoy soccer. 

His volunteer record also includes time with Financial Beginnings USA to help Clackamas County and Portland metro area residents become more financially literate, offering workshops in both English and Spanish.
