40 Under 40: Mallory Miller

Every town needs an advocate to step forward and be a champion of its downtown history, businesses and culture. For Moses Lake, that advocate is Mallory Miller, executive director of the Downtown Moses Lake Association. 

Known by her friends and family as someone who works to create a positive environment, Miller has stepped in to champion downtown Moses Lake by pushing for community engagement in a variety of ways through the DMLA and making people aware of what the organization offers.

“My goal is to get more awareness about what we are and who we are into the community,” Miller said. “I know I’ve already been doing a good job at that, but I think there’s always room to grow.” 

Miller said she wants to ensure people know that space is available in DMLA’s business incubator and that there are networking events held every month to connect downtown businesses to one another. 

DMLA also offers options to ensure the area stays presentable in a way that fosters community pride. To that end, Miller said DMLA offers a chance to adopt the large flower pots scattered around downtown and to contribute to the maintenance of the large clock in the center of the quarter. 

She also wants to make sure businesses know that they can keep tax dollars local by supporting DMLA through the Main Street Tax Credit Incentive Program. Just ask her, and she’ll tell anyone who’ll listen about it. 

Miller said a lot of her work in the community is through the DMLA, but her efforts often direct the businesses downtown toward helping various nonprofits around town and supporting events put on by members, the chamber of commerce and other organizations that serve Moses Lake. 

“I’m at least connecting with people, and then if there is something that they say I can help with, I am actively acting on those gestures,” Miller said.
