QUINCY — Everything from a parade to a soccer tournament to a fun run will be on the agenda as the annual Farmer Consumer Awareness Day comes to Quincy Sept. 14.

Actually there’s an unofficial kickoff Friday night; the B Street Block Party is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. in the block between Central Avenue South and First Street Southwest. The evening will feature food trucks, beer and wine vendors, games and live music.

The “Beat the Beast” run, in memory of Ben Horning, kicks off Saturday’s events. The race starts at 8 a.m., with same day registration at 7 a.m. Runners and walkers have their choice of two-kilometer or five-kilometer courses.

A soccer tournament is scheduled for Saturday morning for unified teams at the field behind Quincy Middle School.

The annual FCAD parade rolls (and walks) through downtown at 10 a.m. Parade entrants check in at the stand at the intersection of Central Avenue South and B Street SE, and the parade route snakes through downtown to Division Street East.

The parade ends at QMS, where most of the afternoon’s activities are scheduled.

Traditionally vendors and information booths set up in the QMS gym, and the Quincy High School Future Farmers of America chapter holds a produce sale in the QMS parking lot.

The annual quilt show will be in the QMS gym, with attendees getting a chance to vote for their favorites.

Children’s games and activities and additional vendors will be set up behind QMS. That’s also the spot for the car show. The annual tractor pull is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the field next to the middle school. Traditionally there are tours of local farms to show the variety of crops grown near Quincy. Those tours leave from the QMS parking lot.
